I had the pleasure of presenting at SearchFest 2009 in Portland, OR this week with Rick Turcozy and David Wallace.

Very comprehensive run down. I think its also a good idea to disable indexes and black HTTP access to wp-content.
Personally I like to go with the URLs like:
blog.com/hello-this-is-a-post
adding a slash on the end is meant to signify it is a directory that is being called.
